The Title Sponsorship of this year’s Cumbrian Challenge is provided by Helly Hansen, the top- clothing brand. The event is organised in collaboration with ‘Walking With The Wounded’, an aid organisation aiming to re-train and re-educate ex-servicemen and women in order to improve their lifestyle. The Helly Hansen Cumbrian Challenge is going to be a ‘shouldn’t miss’ event in 2013 and will be held on Saturday, 18th May.

Set amongst the stunning backdrop of the Lake District’s Ullswater Valley, The Helly Hansen Cumbrian Challenge is an annual mountain trail event designed to raise much needed funds for the Walking With The Wounded charity, whilst promoting fitness and enjoyment of the great outdoors.

Perfect for experienced athletes or general outdoor enthusiasts, teams of four will compete against each other to be the first to complete the challenge. Participants will also be able to meet and race against Walking With The Wounded team members from the renowned North Pole, Everest and upcoming South Pole expeditions.

To cater for different fitness levels, there will be two routes available – The Tough is a 20km hike, covering five peaks with an altitude gain of 1144 metres, and for the more adventurous, The Tougher is a 33km hike covering ten peaks with an altitude gain of 2327 metres. Both routes are circular and can be completed within a day. All participants will receive a free HH Cool technical tee on completion of the race, and a number of exclusive Helly Hansen prizes will be awarded to the highest fundraising team, fastest female team, fastest male team and fastest veteran team (over 45).

On completion of the challenge, all participants will be given the opportunity to kick back and unwind, whilst enjoying evening entertainment, a BBQ buffet meal, cash bar and informal prize giving ceremony.

On event day, Helly Hansen will have a retail stand at the central event base, where participants will be able to purchase last minute kit for the challenge and spectators can browse the latest Training Collection from the sportswear brand.

Safety and comfort is of paramount importance to Walking With The Wounded and Helly Hansen, throughout the duration of the challenge, first aid teams, vehicle support and timing and checkpoint control staff will be present, whilst route marshals, qualified mountain guides and mountain leaders will man both routes and tail the last teams to finish.
