Kendal call for superhero volunteers for new comedy festival in October

The Lake District time of Kendal have issued a call for all superheroes to come forward as volunteers for their new festival which is taking place in the Autumn. The Lakes International Comic Art Festival is to take place from the 18th-20th October and the organisers need enthusiast volunteers willing to lend many pairs of hands. They are seeking to put together a team of around 50 volunteers, who will receive a full briefing next month at a special session.

This will also give them the chance to meet Bryan Talbot, the patron of the festival who, along with wife Mary, won the Costa Biography Award 2012, a prestigious literary award. They picked up the award for Dotter of Her Father’s Eyes, which Bryan illustrated, that concerns the tragic story of Lucia, the daughter of James Joyce.

Julie Tait is the festival director, and she has said that this is an extremely ambitious festival and, for its first year, has a fantastic guest line up. She added that pulling it altogether will be hard but very rewarding work and all those who come forward and are willing to take part in the inaugural event will make it a huge success.

The jobs that the volunteers will be doing include the chaperoning of international writers or artists, providing the public with information and helping out at the various zones around town where the festival will be taking place including the special kids and family zone and at the Brewery Arts Centre. Those aged 18 and over who are interested in volunteering should send an email to, and the organisers have stressed they need them to make contact in the next couple of weeks.
