Taking the magic of the Lakes around the world

2When booking a holiday, the Lake District is always a popular option – but what if you fancy something different? While this little corner of English paradise is something we’re immensely proud of, there are plenty of other great natural beauties to explore all over the world.

For those inspired with the spirit of adventure, here’s our guide to taking the magic of the Lakes around the world with you.

See it all

The world is full of natural landscapes just waiting to be explored – the trick is deciding where to go. Take a look at the different itineraries offered by cruise companies and travel agents – such as Thomas Cook holiday deals – to find the best offers available for various routes. Cruises are a great way to explore the world but if you fancy something a little less intensive then there are still plenty of all inclusive packages which you can choose from.

Pack your camera

There’s no point seeking the most beautiful spots in the world if you’re not going to be able to appreciate them for years to come. Give yourself lasting memories by packing your camera; there will be plenty of photo opportunities so it’s best to make the most of them!

Try and get a range of shots by opting to visit natural landmarks at different times of day and in different lights. Change the position and angle of your camera to get more dramatic shots and look for interesting ways to capture the surrounding areas. You can always look to mimic any shots of the Lakes you have to give your global tour greater significance and allow comparisons when you return home.

Top destinations

For those interested in finding the perfect places to match the beauty of the Lakes, here are our top three choices:

  • Balearic Islands

A beautiful slice of Spanish paradise, natural attractions to seek include Majorca’s biggest mountain (Serra de Tramuntana) where you can witness mountainous landscapes and lakes from Sóller to Palma de Mallorca as well as the pine forest found in the heart of party capital Ibiza.

  •  Cyprus

Packed full of sunshine and stunning landscapes, take a trip to one of the many lakes in Cyprus to give our own Lake District a run for its money. For something really special, take a trip to Larnaca Salt Lake which may offer clues about an ancient civilisation.

  • Egypt

While the River Nile is probably its most recognised natural feature, there are plenty of great lakes to explore too. A popular visit is Lake Qarun found 80km from Cairo.
