Places to visit in the Lake District

The Lake District is one of the UK’s most popular tourist destinations. The place is particularly popular for the large number of lakes in the area, the beautiful and unspoiled nature, and the small towns in the area that offer affordable accommodation, qualitative luxury goods and great entertainment.

The Lake District was registered as a National Park in 1951 and since then it has been visited by millions of tourists from all around the world. The largest area of water in the park is Lake Windermere which is also the largest in England. This particular lake is the favourite relaxation spot of thousands of people, so it isn’t a surprise that there are many available activities and tours around the place.

Although the entire area is popular, there are certain places that attract more tourists. One of those places is around Ullswater. The area around the lake is very scenic and there aren’t many places in England where you can enjoy such scenery. The villages around the lake are very welcoming and one of them is the home town of William Wordsworth, a famous romantic poet, who used the place as an inspiration for many of his works.

The village of Grasmere is one of the most favourite spots of visitors, because it offers great conditions for mountaineering and hiking. The place isn’t very big, but there are enough shops and dining establishments to meet the requirements of most tourists, so you won’t be disappointed if you decide to visit Grasmere.

One of the most popular places in the village is the Wordsworth Restaurant which serves marvellous dishes at reasonable prices. You should also visit Sarah Nelson’s shop where you can try authentic gingerbread, and buy some sweaters or other luxury goods.
